The French Group has been retained by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina to assist in recruiting a physician executive to this highly visible role. Headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, BCBSNC is a leader in delivering healthcare products and services to nearly 3.8 million members.

Position Summary

The Medical Director, Sales Consultation Support Healthcare serves as the expert physician executive for Sales, Healthcare Consulting and Customers including customer- facing engagements effectively representing BCBSNC healthcare and provider network services and capabilities.  The Medical Director represents BCBSNC to other external groups and is responsible for developing strategic partnerships with internal business partners and external clients. This role is responsible for the development, ongoing refinement and execution of the Care and Network sales strategy to grow membership through new sales and increased retention. In addition, the Medical Director will lead and manage a team to provide sales support, group analytics and consulting for health plan decision makers to better manage health care costs and improve the health of employees.

Essential Functions

  • This is a highly visible position requiring exceptional leadership skills and substantial experience as a physician executive. The Medical Director is a critical medical and business leader; thus requiring superior interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills. The successful candidate must have at least 5 years leadership experience in healthcare clinical consulting/sales/development environment and/or health plan consulting with demonstrated success with outstanding sales and/or consulting results. Account management or customer relationship management experience preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • M.D. or D.O. with active, unrestricted medical license (NC preferred)
  • Current Board Certification in an ABMS recognized specialty – primary care preferred
  • Graduate degree or equivalent in healthcare management, finance or leadership, e.g. MBA, MPH, MHS, MHA, etc. preferred
